My besty Judy sat in the makeup chair recently to talk about her ongoing scrimmage with rosacea. Rosacea needs to be treated both internally, with diet modifications and proper nutrients, as well as externally with creams and products for sensitive skin. In the above video, I go into this topic and demonstrate practical solutions to both cover the reddness and also to manage breakouts.
Rosacea stems from an overgrowth of bacteria in the intestine that is exacerbated by things like fried food, alcohol, caffiene and sometimes grains. Changing your diet to exclude refined sugar, complex carbohydrates, and high levels of saturated fat can make an enormous difference in how your skin reacts. It’s best to eat nutrient-dense foods, such as deeply pigmented fruits and vegetables, omega-3 fatty acids, such as wild salmon and chia flax seeds, and maybe try the Paleolithic or Paleo diet. Both diets strengthen the immune system and add valuable nutrients to the gut.
Externally, it’s important to avoid using any product that is harsh like soap or any products not created for sensitive skin. Judy has been trying the Image Skin Care line recently and likes it, as well as Shiseido. As a makeup artist, I highly recommend trying some Makeup Forever green tint to counteract the reddness of rosacea. Simply apply the tint either under or over makeup in conjuction with skin care products that hydrate and soothe the skin and you will see greatly diminished redness.
Lastly, use a powder blush in a warm tone like Bamboo from MAC cosmetics on your cheek area. This warms up the redness as well and adds a lovely glow to the skin. Avoiding a too vibrant red, coral, or pink lipstick is helpful as well. I hope these tricks and tips from the Beauty Shaman have been helpful.
