In part three of my six part series with the Conscious Cleanse founders Julie Pelaez who with Jo Schaalman wrote The Conscious Cleanse: Lose weight, heal your body and transform your life in 14 days, we discuss the ever important topic of food combining and bloating! Which of us hasn’t eaten a meal and then watched our gut swell up and then produce prodigious amounts of gas? If you are out in public, this can be rather challenging. Rather than run for the bathroom every five minutes, I suggest that you watch this video where we go into depth on the simple solution to gas and bloating: food combining.
What is Food Combining?
Jules explains in this video that this is when you eat certain food groups together, and omit other foods. For example, vegetables are always the baseline for eating. You can eat veggies with a protein or with a grain like quinoa or buckwheat, but you can’t eat a protein with a grain. It seems odd at first, but once you do it, you will notice that you feel energetic after you eat, as opposed to heavy and sluggish. Wouldn’t that be nice? You will notice your gas and bloating diminish and leave as well, which for many of us is freeing and fabulous. It takes an adjustment to your normal eating routine, but it’s well worth the change.
But I Love Fruit in My Oatmeal!
What about fruit, you ask? Fruit should always be eaten alone and thirty minutes before or after eating anything else. If you eat fruit with other foods, it can putrefy in your gut (yuck!) and cause gas or other disorders. Personally, I like to eat fruit with my morning green tea, and then later have my regular breakfast. Fruit has many nutrients but needs to not be combined with other foods to be most effective.
